Jasper Products recently completed the design, manufacture, and installation of a GRP walkway and work platform at the Grove Park Rail maintenance depot in London, UK. GRP, or Glass Reinforced Plastic, is widely used in the rail industry for its non-conductive, corrosion-, fire-, and slip-resistant properties, ensuring a safe working environment.
The access equipment features a 200 m long, 1500 mm wide raised walkway inside the cleaning shed on the rail sidings, aiding train refurbishment and upgrades for the Southeastern rolling stock.
The custom-designed framework was built from GRP box and channel sections, bolted with stainless steel fixings, and topped with 25 mm yellow open mesh grating panels. Each support leg was precisely cut to fit its location, accommodating variations in concrete and gradient, creating a flat, level surface along the entire length.
The precision fabrication ensured consistent access to train doors, allowing safe entry for staff. Installed in just 10 days by PTS-trained personnel, the walkway includes GRP access ramps at both ends, with open mesh flooring and ergonomic handrails for quick, easy access for staff and materials.
