Painting the internal skin of a dome shaped structure was proving quite challenging for Rockwell Collins. Tooling fixed to the base of the unit made it impossible to use any kind of standard access equipment. The system was being sent to Helsinki so component size was also an important factor to take into account during the design process.
An innovative approach led to a centrally pivoted, modular system that allowed 360 degree access. Training and OM Manuals ensured that RC Operatives could install and dismantle efficiently and correctly as well as operate safely.
